Narrative

TILL's day services are as varied as its participants. One size does not fit all; therefore we operate day habilitation programs, TILL Central programs, and specialty programs including Autism Initiative and TILL Farms, as well as employment supports, vocational training and placement leading to supported work or competitive employment, culinary training and development of artistic talents.

Each of our day habilitation programs captures the unique personality of its participants, staff, and local community. We offer extensive evaluations and assessments to ensure that people are grouped according to their interests, their medical, physical and /or behavioral needs.

An interdisciplinary clinical team and a strong behavioral approach are incorporated into each day habilitation site to develop functional skills and enjoyment of the communities surrounding them. Each one has its own unique personality based on its participants.

Our day support professional instructors work closely with our clinical staff in developing dynamic schedules of activities to ensure that the person is actively involved in their daily routines. Experienced, clinical staff offer wide-ranging specialized services, including:

  •  Nursing Staff
  • Speech and Language Communication Therapists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Physical Therapists
  • Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants
  • Certified Physical Therapist Assistants

These interdisciplinary clinical teams provide comprehensive assessments to create personalized treatment plans for each participant.

Our day habilitation programs provide supports to people with high medical needs as well as those who need assistance with activities of daily living in order to function as independently as possible.

We utilize a positive behavioral approach for many skills which are taught. The common theme throughout each day is functional. Activities are well thought out as to their relevance to the person's total living situation. Friendships, creative pursuits and medical and clinical oversight in a supportive environment is a common thread throughout our day habilitation programs.

TILL's Central, defined and directed by the individual participants, with an emphasis on individual interests, physical fitness and use of the community resources, further enhance the experiences of all participants. As a supplement to our Day Habilitation programs, those involved in TILL's Central services are taught to make choices and uniquely express their preferences. A typical week’s schedule for TILL's Central participants might include volunteering at a hospital or senior center, exercising at a gym, working on a produce farm, volunteering at a food shelter, producing a video at the local cable station, or learning dance routines while using a wheelchair. Some of our sites have developed an entrepreneurial spirit through their own recycling business as well as a refreshment delivery business. A menu of activities in which participants are empowered to control their own schedule based on learning to make choices and developing new interests, is one of TILL's Centrals’ primary themes.

TILL's Farm Central offers learning and growth opportunities in our innovative and earth-friendly farm program.  Working in partnership with staff, our farm-interns prepare the soil; plant, nurture and harvest produce; tend to small farm animals; care for chickens and gather eggs; and work on individualized social and community goals.

TILL's Autism Initiative program provides an innovative approach to working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Developed as an expansion of the TILL Central/Billerica program, we partnered with TILL's Autism Support staff to establish a highly specialized program for this population. Our shared expertise result in thorough, practical assessments and behaviorally based teaching plans suited to each individuals learning style.
